Who’s Your Sensei?

Last Friday I have the opportunity to attend a workshop and Toastmasters meeting hosted by the Tysons Beltway Advanced club.  The educational session was led by Mark Jaster.  The speeches which followed Mark’s clinic all focused upon the use of body language, gestures, and movement aimed at enhancing the presenters’ message. The rest of my weekend was filled with aikido practice, mowing the lawn, felling a tree, and hauling away dead branches to the county dump.  During this work it occurred to me that so much is gained by seeking instruction and following the advice of a mentor, coach, sensei, or someone more skilled than you are regardless the task at hand.

The first key to mastery is to seek instruction.
